You just never know...

So, one minute we are happily walking down a trail on Hurricane Ridge the next minute we are in the ER...again. We decided to head up to the mountains for a little picnic today. After we ate, and let me tell you that was the wild and wooliest picnic I have ever had, deer hanging over our shoulders(literally), birds divebombing for our sandwiches(one flew into my hair!), and chipmunks trying to crawl up our legs to get to the food...it was crazy, we decided to go on a hike. We were having a really great time, just one of those beautiful days, Heath and I were chatting, Liam was content, Graham was doing really good and enjoying himself...until he went skipping down the trail, tripped and fell smack on his head on a shale rock. Oh. My. Word. Heath immediately picked up a screaming Graham, looked at the wound, and said, "Christie we've got to get him to the Doctor." He also told me not to panic. Heath is a very matter of fact kind of guy. I knew that if he said we needed to get to the Doc, it was serious. We both saw the bone. Heath was like Mega Man. He carried him the whole way down that steep trail never stopping once. After a brief stop off at the Ranger Station for some band aids and alcohol wipes we headed out. It was a long, long 17 mile ride back down the mountain to the hospital. Graham was distraught. My heart was breaking for him. We just wanted to get there.
Well, we finally did make it to the ER and he got in quite quickly. I bought him a little frog at the gift shop that he could squeeze whenever it hurt really bad. The nurses were sooo nice and put him to ease right away. He actually started to enjoy himself. I can only tell you that the stuff he was saying was priceless. The Doc came in, said he needed stitches, and got everything set up. Graham was soooo brave during the whole thing. He only cried when they numbed him but it wasn't hysterically it just really hurt. He stayed very still for the whole thing. The Dr. said he was the best patient he had had all day and the nurse said she had teenagers who cried more than he did. Once it was all over he was given more stickers than is humanly possible, lots of love from all the nurses, and a popscicle. Graham's pronouncement upon leaving, "Getting stitches is really fun!" That's my boy!

Please tell Graham that he is the bravest boy we have ever heard of. Papa Ray says he will have a talk with him about the times he has had stitches too. We are so proud of you Graham and we love you and miss you.xxoo Grandma Peggy and Papa Ray.
