The 4th of July

"A good place for the fourth of July picnic is right in your own back yard, I feel. More and more, America has turned to the outdoors, and this is a fine thing, but on a big holiday those folk who have a back yard would be well advised to enjoy it."
~Gladys Tabor~

This year we took Gladys Tabor's advice(albeit the front yard) and kept the 4th very low key. Honestly, since we just got back from camping I wouldn't have realized it was already the time to buy fireworks except for the fact that they were being sold on every corner! Fortunately for us, the neighborhood tends to pool all their fireworks so our pitiful little amount didn't really matter. The kids, as always, had a blast and what we thought might have been a washout due to rain cleared up at just the right time and there was no wind, which is no small thing in this neck o' the woods. Which also meant the guy the pops out of the parachute firework didn't blow into the trees behind the house or onto someones roof!

For some reason this reminds me of the scene in "Sand Lot".

Gotta love a neighborhood full of kids!
